Rowing a church boat

Church boat is a very big rowboat. In 17- and 18-century at Lake Tuusula people from various villages used these big rowboats to go to the church on Sundays. Every village had their own boat and many times boats were competing in speed during the trip!

Nowadays rowing church boats is a hobby.  Every year thousands of boats with their teams get together and compete on which team is fastest on the trail which might be even 60 kilometres long. Contest is called Sulkava rowing race and it is arranged in Lake Saimaa, the biggest lake in Finland, every year.

Our trail length is less than 3 kilometres. During the rowing you get to experience what is needed to be fast – and how you manage to get the same rhythm with your team members!

Floating vests (obligatory for safety reasons) for every participant are included in the trip price.
